Job Description

Ready to build your career? We want to hear from you.
The Senior Discipline Lead – Code and Fire Safety- acts as the principal subject-matter expert on specific projects and as the specific Code team evolves, oversees the assignment of resources. This role spans both development-stage projects (Pre-Construction and Tender phases) and active execution phases. During the Pre-Construction phase, the Senior Discipline Lead collaborates on design strategy within the bid or design management team. The Head of discipline is actively involved in concept development with consultants and specialized subcontractors (when selected) and contributes to strengthening the synergy between design and construction teams, ensuring that the design and associated costs are optimized per client requirements and remain compliant. Post-contract award, the Lead continues their involvement, as needed, through to finalization of the design, ensuring guidelines and concepts are upheld and implemented. During the execution phase, the Discipline Lead may also provide technical input on Code issues that arise across various design or construction projects under Pomerleau’s purview.
What you will do

Design Development during Proposal Phase :

• Thoroughly review client-provided documents related to the discipline during the proposal stage.
• Verify the scope of services of the discipline’s design consultant, identifying any ambiguities or service gaps.
• From the outset, establish design strategies and guidelines with the consultant.
• Participate in discussions regarding cost, schedule and construction execution strategies for the discipline.
• Collaborate with the consultant and, if selected, the specialized subcontractor to develop effective concepts and alternative solutions in compliance with client requirements.
• Optimize the design during development to ensure constructability, identify design-construction discrepancies, and assist in resolving them.
• Maintain close collaboration with the estimating team as necessary.
• Attend project design meetings as required.
• Ensure effective communication and information exchanges between the consultant and the construction team and, when necessary, with the Code and Standards Authorities.
• If needed, participate in design sessions with the client and respond to technical queries through RFIs.
• Support Design Management resources during Code reviews or audits to ensure quality and compliance with client expectations and applicable standards.
• Participate in risk identification and mitigation strategies related to the discipline.
• Review and validate technical documentation before official release.
• In collaboration with the consultants, prepare alternate code compliance solutions in line with project needs and client contract compliance

Project Execution :

• Upon contract award, work with the design team until final design completion, ensuring a timely handoff to the design and/or construction teams.
• Serve as the discipline expert for addressing Code issues, including implementation challenges.
• In collaboration with the consultants, prepare alternate code compliance solutions in line with in situ construction to mitigate impacts to schedule and cost
