As an Environmental Coordinator you will play an integral role in supporting project teams to achieve and maintain full compliance with environmental legislation, contractual requirements, and other project-specific conditions and commitments. Your work will help foster a positive and proactive culture of environmental awareness and regulatory responsibility with you project team and throughout the Pomerleau family

In your capacity as Environmental Coordinator you will:
• Report to the Environmental Lead and the respective Project Manager for the project you are assigned to.
• Actively support the development of environmental management plans, permit applications, and other pre-construction deliverables (e.g., Environmental Protection Plans, site specific Erosion and Sediment Control Plans, Environmental Emergency Plans, etc.) as required by the project.
• Implement the project-specific environmental monitoring program, including water quality monitoring (e.g., turbidity, pH, etc.), wildlife monitoring, invasive plant management, soil movement (i.e., relocation and/or disposal), waste segregation and recycling, and other components of general construction environmental monitoring.
• Maintain accurate project records including field notes, measurements, checklists, and photographic documentation.
• Verify environmental compliance of subcontractors and assist in the regulatory reporting process.
• Identify, communicate, and help resolve potential or actual environmental non-compliance or incidents.
• Track, document, and report on environmental performance indicators including environmental emergencies (i.e., spills), waste diversion and circular economy, and instances of non-conformance.
• As required, collect samples (e.g., water, soil, etc.) for laboratory analysis.
• Collaborate with an internal, multidisciplinary team of other professionals and, as necessary, liaise with external consultants, Clients, and regulators to ensure to ensure the success of the project.
• Participate in project meetings, debriefings, and contribute to environmental awareness training

What you Bring

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or diploma) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, or similar field.
• Is an applied scientist or technologist who is registered, and in good standings, with a professional association constituted under an Act and who is acting under that association’s code of ethics and subject to the association’s disciplinary proceedings (i.e., Qualified Environmental Professional). Consideration may be given to individuals who are currently in the process of achieving their full designation (i.e., In Training).
• Working knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal legislation and the compliance management systems necessary to monitor, document, track, and report on the items as they apply to a respective project.
• Is experienced in a variety standard field techniques (e.g., in-situ water quality monitoring, sample collection (soil and water) and interpretation of analytical results, underwater noise monitoring, etc.) and is able to leverage that knowledge and experience to train junior staff and provide the necessary degree of quality control and assurance within their area of practice.
• Demonstrated construction experience working on a range of complex, large scale civil and/or infrastructure development projects in a similar capacity.
• Is a collaborative team player with excellent intrapersonal skills but is also self motivated and driven when necessary.
