Job Description

Ready to build your career? We want to hear from you.
As an Environmental Manager working in the Operational Support team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the project teams in ensuring environmental and contractual compliance of our projects in Ontario. Supporting large-scale building, civil and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will have the opportunity to provide guidance, support and assistance to ensure legislative compliance.

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Manager, you will operate with a high level of autonomy and work in close collaboration with regional and project leadership teams. This role provides both project-level environmental support and regional oversight to ensure consistent regulatory compliance, effective EMS performance, and proactive management of environmental risks.
What you will do:
• Provide multi-project environmental support in Toronto to ensure consistent application of environmental requirements and the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Provide leadership and clear direction to project teams, while serving as a primary point of contact with regulatory authorities, clients, and internal stakeholders on complex environmental and compliance issues.
• Identify, monitor, and escalate environmental risks, trends, and non-compliances to support regional decision-making.
• Coordinate the implementation of environmental plans and obtain required environmental permits.
• Implement, maintain, and continuously improve an Environmental Management System (EMS) compliant with ISO 14001:2015, and support performance monitoring at the project and regional level.
• Support the deployment of corporate sustainability and ESG commitments within projects.
• Coordinate and support project teams in meeting sustainability or certification objectives such as LEED, Envision, or Green Globes, where required.
• Contribute environmental expertise during project pursuits and proposals, including risk identification, environmental strategies, and client requirements.
• Supervise and mobilize environmental coordinators and leads, coordinate monitoring activities, and manage performance, development, and reporting required for project and regional compliance.

This role could be for you if you have:
• University degree in environment, biology, ecology, geography, environmental engineering or similar field.
• At least 10 years of experience in environmental management and in the development and implementation of EMS, including on major projects in Canada.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including team supervision, influence, collaboration, and management of performance and non-performance.
• Excellent knowledge of federal and provincial regulatory frameworks.
• A strong understanding of the environmental issues and impacts facing the construction industry.
Benefits
• RRSP with up to 5% employer matching
