As a Design Manager, you will work with our Project Managers and other support consultants to drive the need for collaboration of communication whereby accurate and comprehensive design information is being shared, circulated and delivered through all departments from concept through construction – a process we thrive on! What you will do

• Provide key support and expertise to our estimation and project management teams with activities that could include reviewing designs and details for constructability, building code compliance, schedule, and quality control for design-build projects;
• Develop alternate arrangements and details for proposals and pricing, implementation by consultants, shop drawing review and construction review;
• Ensure that engineering designs are compliant with the specifications and/or that the appropriate processes are followed;
• Work closely with the design consultants and project team members to ensure that the designs are optimized to reduce overall construction costs, while complying with the owner’s specifications;
• Build strong relationships both internally and externally with project partners;
• Manage the change order process for the architectural design scope of work, which includes reviewing submitted change orders against established scope and making recommendations on approval or rejection of the Change Orders;
• Anticipate potential design, resourcing or other issues and proactively respond with effective solutions;
• Provide on-site expertise by visiting projects to visually identify any potential issues that may arise and propose the best solution to look at problems/issues and propose solutions;
• Respect the architectural design and collaborate with engineers to ensure Building Code compliance;
• Keep the communication line open with subcontractors and incorporate ideas and feedback where appropriate without sacrificing performance;
• Review the building envelope shop drawings.


This role could be for you if you have

• Engineering or Architecture degree or Technical diploma related to buildings design/construction;
• Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a senior position in architecture/design and/or construction industries on large scale projects;
• Strong knowledge of design processes and workflows for architecture and engineering disciplines to allow strategic responses to potential impacts on design schedule or quality;
• Proven interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written);
• Strategic thinking and the ability to be influential with internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes;
